The Thomas Dixon Room

The Thomas Dixon Room

Queen accommodation with mantle and sitting area, double Jacuzzi tub and shower in private bath.......$180.00

Probably Carol's favorite room because it is filled with so many family memories. The central piece is the coverlet that hangs over the bed, made by a family member dating pre-Civil War, as is the dress on the mannequin. The collection of purses on the wall were in the family. The black purses were "re-cycled" from high silk hats into evening purses and the gold on the lower left was carried to President Wilson's Inaugural Ball. The bathroom has recently been renovated and now features a double Jacuzzi.

In 1894, Thomas Dixon, a minister, built the house next door as an escape for his family from the wicked city of New York. He maintained his congregation there while living here by commuting every week on the train. But, after 2 years his congregation forced him to return. He also was a writer and penned the controversial book, THE CLANSMAN, which later became the epic film BIRTH OF A NATION.
