Ideal Accommodations for Weekend Getaways in Cape Charles

Queen accommodation, on the second floor, shower in private bath…$169.00 (off season $160)

Alexander Cassatt along with William Scott used his own personal fortune to revive a dream of having a new rail route between north and south, since the Pennsylvania Rail Road considered it impractical.  He was also the designer of the rail ferry from Cape Charles to Norfolk.  His original idea is still in use today.  Cassatt was the second president elected to the young railroad.

Alexander Cassatt’s sister was Mary Cassatt, the world-renowned French Impressionist painter, considered by art historians and enthusiasts, to be one of the most important female artists ever known.  She was most noted for the depiction of the gentle nature between mother and child.  Several reproductions of her works are displayed in the room, including a self-portrait and a portrait of Alexander and his son.

The large pieces of furniture are painted by Carol’s mother, circa 1950’s and were part of Carol’s bedroom as she grew up.  Her mother was a decorative artist who had her studio in the Philadelphia area.

With a southern exposure, the Cassatt room location offers gracious light sunrise to sunset.  The private bathroom has a walk-in shower. Amenities include custom glycerin rosemary and thyme soaps, luxurious towels and sheets, hair dryer, iron and ironing board.  There is free Wi-Fi throughout the bed and breakfast.
